Pick Yodl for Slack-style channels with a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) included: $10 a month for 5 users. Pick Zenzap if your team lives in group chats, wants AI agents, to-dos and voice and video calls, and will contact sales for the HIPAA add-on. For 5 people both cost about $10 per seat, so the question is what surrounds the chat.
At a glance
Protected health information (PHI) is any detail that identifies a patient and relates to their health or care. A BAA is the contract HIPAA requires from a vendor before it handles PHI. Zenzap prices are as of November 2026 from zenzap.co/pricing; prices change, so verify there.

Pricing in detail
Yodl has one plan: $10 a month for 5 users, 1 location, 20 GB and a signed BAA. Extra users are $2 each, an extra location is $10 with 5 more users and 20 more GB, and the API is $20 a month. Month to month, no free trial.
Zenzap sells by workspace size. Free is $0 with unlimited users, 100 AI credits a month, 1 GB of secure file storage and API access. Business+ is $50 total a month for up to 5 users, with 400 AI credits, 10 TB of storage, priority support and API access. Lite, described as just chat with no AI, is $51 total a month for up to 20 users with 100 GB. The annual toggle is on by default and the monthly rate is not shown, so month to month may cost more. Larger tiers say Book a Demo; Enterprise is custom with SAML, SCIM and SSO, audit logs and encryption key management.
HIPAA and the BAA
HIPAA requires a BAA before a vendor handles PHI (45 CFR 164.502(e) and 164.308(b)). HIPAA does not certify any app; compliance is your practice's policies plus a vendor that signs and provides safeguards.
Yodl signs a BAA with every customer on every plan, including the $10 plan. It is encrypted in transit and at rest, hosted on HIPAA-eligible infrastructure with subprocessor BAAs, and not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so that search, retention, audit and admin controls work, the same model Slack and Microsoft Teams use.
Zenzap offers a BAA as a paid add-on called HIPAA Compliance + Signed BAA, for teams handling protected health information, available by contacting sales. Its pricing page does not say which base plans qualify or what it costs. The homepage shows a HIPAA badge with no written HIPAA claim; the trust center lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO/IEC 27001, GDPR and HIPAA badges with documents gated, and encryption at rest only, so ask about transit. The Free plan has no BAA.
The features a small practice actually uses
| Feature | Yodl | Zenzap |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | Slack-style channels, DMs, group DMs, threads, reactions, @mentions, saved messages | Group chats and DMs, closer to WhatsApp than Slack, with AI agents inside chats |
| Files and search | Preview and download; full-text search; 20 GB | 1 GB (Free) to 10 TB (Business+); file malware scanning; search not detailed |
| Roles, audit, lock | Manager, Member and Viewer per channel; invite-only; audit viewer with CSV export; retention and legal hold; passkeys; 15-minute inactivity lock | Admin permissions; data archiving; audit logs and SSO on Enterprise |
| Calls and tasks | None; website leads can land in a channel | Voice and video calls on Business+ and Lite; to-dos, sub-tasks, checklists, scheduled messages, 400+ connectors claimed |
Where Zenzap is the better choice
Zenzap wins when the chat is only part of the job. It has voice and video calls on Business+ and Lite; Yodl has none. It has to-dos, sub-tasks and checklist templates, scheduled messages, working hours and calendar integration, and it claims automated workflows with more than 400 connectors. A daily opening checklist inside the chat tool is built in.
Zenzap also fits teams coming off WhatsApp: group chats and DMs, a WhatsApp chats migration, and a Free plan unlimited users can try. Its industry pages cover Medical, Retail, Construction, Food Services, Hospitality, Franchise and Nonprofit, so healthcare is one audience of several. Zenzap includes AI credits on Free and Business+; Yodl's AI teammate is an optional, separate PhiClaw product.
Where Yodl is the better choice
Yodl wins on the HIPAA part being settled. The BAA is in the price on every plan, with no sales call and no unpublished add-on, and the admin panel has a 13-gate HIPAA readiness checklist, an audit viewer with CSV export, retention controls and legal hold, so an office manager can answer an auditor without a consultant.
Yodl also wins for teams that think in channels: a front-desk channel, a clinical channel, one per location, threads so one patient question does not bury the next, Viewer roles so a locum or bookkeeper can read without posting. Web push never contains the message, and the important-message email only tells you to open Yodl. The price is flat and known: $10, $2 per extra user, $10 per extra location, no demo to book.
Who should choose which
| Your team | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 5-person medical, dental or therapy office that needs a BAA now | Yodl | BAA included at $10; self-serve |
| Frontline team moving off WhatsApp, no PHI | Zenzap | Group-chat layout, WhatsApp migration, free plan |
| Office that wants calls, to-dos and workflows in one app | Zenzap | Built in |
| Team that wants audit, retention and roles without a consultant | Yodl | All on the $10 plan |
| Group of 20 or more | Ask both | Zenzap needs a demo above 5 users; Yodl is $2 per extra user |
If Yodl is the fit, start on the pricing page: $10 a month for 5 people, a signed BAA.
For 5 people the prices are nearly the same, so choose on what surrounds the chat: Zenzap for calls, tasks and AI agents with a HIPAA add-on priced by sales, Yodl for channels, admin controls and a BAA already inside the $10.
