As of November 2026, Slack Pro is $8.75 per user a month on monthly billing or $7.25 annual, and Business+ is $18 or $15. Neither includes a BAA. Slack's HIPAA support requires an Enterprise plan, and Enterprise+ pricing is contact sales, so the real price of Slack with a BAA is a number Slack does not publish. Prices change, so verify on slack.com.
Every plan and price
| Plan | Price | Unit | Billing | What it includes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Per workspace | n/a | 'Free forever'; 90-day message history; up to 10 apps; data deleted after 1 year |
| Pro | $8.75 monthly or $7.25 when paying annually | Per user a month | Monthly or annual | Unlimited message history and apps, Workflow Builder; promo of $4.38 for 3 months on eligible monthly purchases within 7 days of creating a team |
| Business+ | $18 monthly or $15 when paying annually | Per user a month | Monthly or annual | Slack's mid tier above Pro; promo of $9 for 3 months |
| Enterprise+ | Contact sales | Per user | Contract | Discovery API, Data Loss Prevention, 'Support for HIPAA compliance'; the pricing page no longer names 'Enterprise Grid' |
Slack's chat itself is excellent: channels, direct messages, threads, huddles, unlimited app integrations on paid plans and a Workflow Builder. None of that is the problem. The problem is where the Business Associate Agreement sits.
The fine print
- The promotional prices ($4.38 and $9 for 3 months) apply to eligible monthly purchases made within 7 days of team creation, then the full rate applies.
- Annual billing is $1.50 less per user on Pro and $3 less on Business+, but it locks you in for the year.
- The free plan hides messages older than 90 days and deletes data after one year, which is a retention problem for any record you might need later.
- Per-member storage figures that used to be quoted (10 GB, 20 GB, 1 TB) no longer appear on the current help pages we read, so we do not state them.
- 'Support for HIPAA compliance' appears on the pricing page in the Enterprise+ column, and the HIPAA help article says you must be on an Enterprise plan and must execute a BAA.
- There is no BAA with third-party apps installed in Slack, and Slack says it should not be your system of record.
What a 5-person and a 15-person practice would pay
| Team | Pro, monthly billing | Pro, annual | Business+, monthly | Business+, annual | Enterprise+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 people | $43.75 a month | $36.25 a month ($435 a year) | $90 a month | $75 a month ($900 a year) | Contact sales |
| 15 people | $131.25 a month | $108.75 a month ($1,305 a year) | $270 a month | $225 a month ($2,700 a year) | Contact sales |
Read the table with one fact in mind: none of the Pro or Business+ rows includes a BAA. A 15-person practice can spend $2,700 a year on Business+ and still have no agreement that lets patient information into the workspace. The only column that comes with HIPAA support is the one without a price.
HIPAA and the BAA: what it costs or requires
A BAA, or Business Associate Agreement, is the contract HIPAA requires before a vendor may hold protected health information (PHI), which is anything that identifies a patient and relates to their care. Slack's own help article is clear: 'On Enterprise plans, Slack can be configured to support HIPAA-compliant message and file collaboration', 'You must be using a Slack Enterprise plan', and 'You must execute a Business Associate Agreement'. You also have to agree to the Slack Guide for HIPAA Entities.
- Slack cannot be used to communicate with patients.
- PHI is allowed only in messages, files and file names, not in other features.
- You must monitor for PHI with Slack's DLP tools or the Discovery API plus an external DLP product.
- Slack should not be the system of record for PHI.
- Third-party apps are outside the BAA.
So the cost of a BAA on Slack is an Enterprise+ contract at an unpublished price, plus DLP tooling, plus the admin time to run it. For a hospital system that already lives on Slack, that can be worth it. For a 5-person office, it is a different product category.
How Yodl's flat price compares
| Slack Pro (no BAA) | Yodl Team (BAA included) | |
|---|---|---|
| 5 people | $43.75 a month on monthly billing | $10 a month |
| 15 people | $131.25 a month on monthly billing | $30 a month ($10 plus 10 extra users at $2) |
| BAA | Enterprise plans only, contact sales | Signed on every plan, including the $10 plan |
| Layout | Channels, DMs, threads, huddles, app directory | Channels, DMs, threads, reactions, mentions, saved messages; no calls, no marketplace |
| Audit and retention | Discovery API and DLP on Enterprise+ | Audit viewer with CSV export, retention controls, legal hold |
| Billing | Monthly or annual per user | Month to month, cancel anytime |
Pick Slack if you are large enough to buy Enterprise+ and run DLP, or if your team genuinely never touches PHI. Pick Yodl if you want the Slack layout with the BAA on day one and can live without huddles, SSO and an app marketplace. The full comparison is at Yodl vs Slack, and the numbers are on the pricing page: $10 a month for 5 people, signed BAA.
Slack's published prices are not HIPAA prices. With a BAA, Slack is an Enterprise+ contract at an unpublished price; without one, no PHI can go in. Price the plan that includes the BAA, which for Slack means a sales call.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a BAA on Slack Pro or Business+?
No. Slack's help article says HIPAA support requires an Enterprise plan and an executed BAA. Pro and Business+ are not Enterprise plans.
What does Slack Enterprise+ cost?
Slack does not publish it. The pricing page says contact sales, and the page no longer names 'Enterprise Grid'.
Can a clinic use Slack's free plan?
Not for anything with patient information, because there is no BAA. The free plan also hides messages older than 90 days and deletes data after one year.
Does the Slack BAA allow messaging patients?
No. Slack's HIPAA terms say it cannot be used to communicate with patients, and PHI is limited to messages, files and file names.
What would 10 people pay on Slack versus Yodl?
Slack Pro is $87.50 a month on monthly billing with no BAA. Yodl is $20 a month ($10 plus 5 extra users at $2) with a signed BAA.
